First Black Shoot 2012!

Friday the 13th was not an unlucky day for me this year. Day at work was good, ride home could have been worse — even though the Schuylkill Expressway eastbound was closed so I had to take the Blue Route home, I still got home in an hour and a half.  I have a splitting headache, but it is sinuses, time of year.  Beautiful day with lots of sun.

Since our freak summer in March we haven’t seen really warm temperatures, instead it has been about normal, even threatening with frost over night. I’ve had some Yellow Groove shoot and was worried that the colder temperatures might kill what had shot early. We have two Yellow Groove beds, the first bed and a small round one near the house. That was the only bamboo that was shooting early this year.

This next Monday, last I checked, we are looking at 83°F, so I have expected our other beds to start showing signs of new life. Nothing in the Arrow (but I haven’t looked real close there), or Vivax (only potted on the front steps, not as much sun), and nothing from the bambusoides (centerpiece of backyard). However, a very nice surprise was waiting for me in the black bamboo bed! Hello there cutie!  🙂
