No, not a panda, but you wouldn’t know by their eating habits in New Jersey!
We haven’t seen rabbits in our backyard for a couple years now, no doubt due to Cora and Josh, so I got a little lazy protecting the large new shoots in our first bamboo bed, Yellow Groove.
Lesson learned. Next year and thereafter I will be putting up the fencing to keep out the critters until the shoots gain some maturity and are not as attractive to the appetites of, my guess, rabbits.
Who knows, we do have at least one groundhog in the yard, perhaps there is a family we haven’t seen. I can’t find evidence that they eat bamboo but maybe they do. In any case, I have fencing up to keep them out. Fortunately they haven’t touched the black bamboo, perhaps it is not as yummy. First sign of that happening and I will fence that one in too.
